That sort of confirms it - former club member Wayne Graefen knew his "stuff" and his research was usually impeccable - 1962 405HP had water heated short rams (not exhaust heated like the 2014 Auburn auction car) and he says same casting as J/K short rams but different castings numbers. I honestly can't remember if it was an 'H' or a Sport, but they definitely called out 405 HP and a back story to the Carpenter collection. Anyone remember? On Thu, Mar 13, 2025 at 3:22 PM Nick Taylor <nicksgaragesd@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:Here's a post from the California Highway Patrol...In 1962, the California Highway Patrol made a significant upgrade to its fleet, acquiring over 1,200 Chrysler Enforcers. Based on the Chrysler Newport, these iconic patrol cars were equipped with the powerful 383 cubic inch V8 Mopar engine, delivering an impressive 325 horsepower. With an upgraded camshaft and carburetor, combined with a heavy-duty police suspension and brake package, these vehicles were built to handle the toughest pursuits.
The fully equipped Enforcer could reach a top speed of 130 mph—a remarkable speed for the time. These cars were not just fast; they were reliable workhorses, helping CHP officers keep California's highways safe.--On Thu, Mar 13, 2025 at 12:41 PM Carl Bilter <cbilter@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:On the short ram casting numbers, that's a good question. If the 60-61 short rams are actually different castings than 63-64, they should have different numbers. Not sure anyone knows. On the headers, further thoughts, maybe 62 405HP used the the J/K headers with heat pipe block offs, as 60-61 headers might not have fit the 62 short wheel base. Drivers side of J/K header is a really tight fit as it is, difficult to clear torsion bar. That said, 62 rams were water heated like 60-61, unless running change to J/K style or something? Not sure anyone really knows. Probably so few sold could be even one-off versions?Carl B.------ Original Message ------From "Nick Taylor" <nicksgaragesd@xxxxxxxxx>To "Carl Bilter" <cbilter@xxxxxxxxx>Cc dplotkin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx; "chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" <chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>Date 3/13/2025 2:20:46 PMSubject Re: Re[2]: {Chrysler 300} Ram Intake Casting NumbersThis October 1961 Car Life road test of the Chrysler Enforcer has some interesting tidbits in it. The photos in the road test are of a 1961 model so the data can be taken with a grain of salt. It does mention the 300H and the 405hp engine but also states that the base engine in the 300H will be a 383. Maybe that was going to be the case and how the Sport was born.I can't see any police agency buying a ram inducted car with the complexity it adds for service and maintenance. But I was only a toddler in those days.here is the article -https://www.chrysler300club.com/newsletter/59/Chrysler%20Enforcer.pdfStill haven't gotten my original question answered about a list of casting numbers for the intakes. Are there only two sets? Long and short?--On Thu, Mar 13, 2025 at 11:59 AM Carl Bilter <cbilter@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:Used manual brakes.Carl B.------ Original Message ------To "Nick Taylor" <nicksgaragesd@xxxxxxxxx>Cc "Chrysler 300 Club International" <chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>Date 3/13/2025 11:23:04 AMSubject RE: {Chrysler 300} Ram Intake Casting NumbersBrakes? a 62 with RAMs would need the remote booster too would it not?

Subject: {Chrysler 300} Ram Intake Casting Numbers--Someone posted a question on Facebook about ram induction on the 300H, which I believe were only dealer-installed. Someone else replied that they had a set of ram intakes from one of them for sale. I asked for a casting number and they provided the one for the left side of 2129987.When I search for this number online, it comes up as J/K ram intake. The club tech page about rams doesn't list full casting numbers. Is there a definitive list of casting numbers? In an article on my own web site contributed by Wayne Graefen, he states that the '60-61 intakes are different from later ones but also includes the casting number mentioned previously.I know that the '60-61 exhaust headers are different from the J/K ones. But what would a 300H have used?Since it is commonly reported that the ram parts for a 300H were included in the trunk, I doubt they put a whole new exhaust system in there. That would be required to work with the cast headers and provide the full 405 horsepower rating. There are other things that make this "parts in the trunk" concept unlikely. What about the other mods to the engine? Camshaft? Valvetrain? Compression ratio? Any mods to the transmission? There was a 300H sold at auction that claimed to have the dealer-installed ram system, but only one picture and no VIN is shown. Thanks for any feedback.Nick
