Thanks Guys, I did not realize it runs up the fin a little. That will make it hard to cut! With the new paint, I am nervous about this. I do remember my moms old 300K did not have a the rear antenna and I sourced one and cut the hole, but that was decades ago. My new AM radio (Aurora Conversion) will have the green antenna power wire, so I do not need the map light switch version. I will add a toggle in the trunk so that if I am using
XM or a USB stick on a long drive I can keep the antenna down while using the radio with those sources. By the way, sound and longevity not withstanding… The Retro Manufacturing dual voice coil speakers showed up. It will mount onto the plate in the front and unit is much shallower than the factory unit, so clearance does nook like
and issue. On the rear unit on the driver’s side, I have the defogger on the passenger side, I used 1 inch #8 machine screws and put them down from the top with nuts to create studs and the speaker holes JUST line up as long as you keep them a little loose.
I drilled out the SMALL holes (there are lager ones next to them) to 3/16. A lot easier than trying to screw sheet metal screws while holding the speaker upside down. James From: Nick
Taylor <nicksgaragesd@xxxxxxxxx> James, The hole is one inch but it goes up the slope of the fin. See the attached pictures. I was lucky to get the original antenna back from the seller of my car.
