RE: [Chrysler300] Paxton 50s performance advert including a C-300

Hi Dennis and Brian Wolf

Yes, my 300C came from the factory with the 120 MPH as well as many other 300C's, since the factory did not have the 150 MPH in stock they used the 120.'s. A few years ago, Merle Wolfer held a Chrysler 300 Club Inc. meet in Tacoma, WA and advertised it in the local newspapers. Several 300C's showed up that we had not seen before, some had 120 MPH and also single head lamps..

Some 300C such as our did not have the screens on the vents that direct the air to the front brakes. Also some 300C came with single headlamps, I was told that some States, maybe California, did not approve of the dual headlamps.

John

Hello John,

Are you sure the 300C came stock with 120 MPH speedometer?I do believe my 300C is completely original and it has a 150 MPH speedometer.[cid:image001.png@01D659C5.D1AA5A00]Dennis WilliamsonVCS Applications ManagerSnap-on Diagnostics408-574-4245NOTICE: The immediately and delete the message from your systemFrom: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> On Behalf Of chesnutt@xxxxxxxxxxxx [Chrysler300]Sent: Tuesday, July 14, 2020 9:16 AMTo: dverity@xxxxxxxxxxx; 'Charles Schoendorf' <cschoend@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; 'Narve Nordanger' <flathead323@xxxxxxxxx>Cc: '300 Club Group' <Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; bob@simplexco.comSubject: RE: [Chrysler300] Paxton 50s performance advert including a C-300CAUTION: This email originated from outside of Snap-on. It was driven to Salt Lake City where the Blower was installed. I don’t think the carbs were pressurized. Harold Wilcoxson had the blower sent back to the factory twice for replacing the bearings. The VS57 Models were suffering from quality control problems during manufacture, and was becoming increasingly expected to perform at and above its design speeds due to the higher capacity and higher revving V8’s coming to market, as well as due to the requirements of racers. Our 300C was drag racing at the Belgrade, MT drag strip and many others in Montana. The 300C was timed at 131 MPH at the Belgrade strip. The 300C came from the factory with a 120 MPH speedometer and on the way to Salt Lake City it was driven over the 120. A new speedometer was ordered and it was a 1958 D 150 MPH. When I bought the 300C, I put the 120 back in the 300.I have a correct 300C speedometer that I purchased many years ago from the Club, Inc. Two years ago I had the Sun Tachometer undated due to the mercury batteries are no longer manufactured. I had the shop test my 150 speedo and run up over 140 on their machine. It still worked and they oiled it. Some time I will install it In the 300C. I bought the 300C from Harold Wilcoxson July 19, 1958. My friend Harold usually bought two fast cars every year and raced them. He never married and cars were his hobby. Harold died at age 94 in Aug. 2017. When I still lived in Seattle, Harold would come to the Drag strips in the Seattle area and always came away the trophies. I feel very lucky that I knew Harold when he was in the Navy during the Korean War stationed at Bremerton, WA. Arlys and I have been to Livingston, MT many times to visit Harold and tour Yellowstone Park. The 300C ran perfectly at 11,000 foot high pass on the NE entrance of Yellowstone as it has the high altitude Jets in the Carbs.John in Portland, ORFrom: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> <Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>> On Behalf Of dverity@xxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:dverity@xxxxxxxxxxx> [Chrysler300]Sent: Tuesday, July 14, 2020 4:58 AMTo: Charles Schoendorf <cschoend@xxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:cschoend@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>>; Narve Nordanger <flathead323@xxxxxxxxx<mailto:flathead323@xxxxxxxxx>>Cc: 300 Club Group <Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>>; bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] Paxton 50s performance advert including a C-300Hi Chuck,I have a 300 E that had a McCulloch supercharger installed when new. The original owner was from RI and he bought the car at North Boulevard Motors in Great Neck NY. I wonder if the same person did the install? Any information you can give me would be welcome. I have no history on the car, as the original owner was deceased before I got the car. The blower was still on the car when I got it in 1994. I just got it on the road with just the 2 4 barrels. I’m getting the blower rebuilt. Thanks,DonFrom: mailto:Chrysler300-noreply@yahoogroups.comSent: Monday, July 13, 2020 11:24 PMTo: Narve Nordanger <mailto:flathead323@xxxxxxxxx%3ECc: 300 Club Group <mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx%3E ; bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx%3ESubject: Re: [Chrysler300] Paxton 50s performance advert including a C-300Apropos of this topic, I have a car that in 1956 received what today we'd call a crate motor, from a 300B, engine #3NE562038. The installation was done by renown builder Bill Frick on Long Island, NY. It appears to be a stock motor to which Frick added a McCullogh VS57A blower. I haven’t had it dyno’d or clocked but the power is quiet ample. If anyone wants to dive deeper I can send them photos. It is quite an installation, with a rather large custom air box surrounding the 2-4’s like I have never seen before.ChuckOn Jul 13, 2020, at 4:50 PM, 'Narve Nordanger' flathead323@xxxxxxxxx <mailto:flathead323@xxxxxxxxx%3E [Chrysler300] <Chrysler300-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:Chrysler300-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx%3E <mailto:flathead323@xxxxxxxxx%3E%20%0b%0bCc:%20300%20Club%20Group%20%3cmailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx%3E%20;%20bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx%20%3cmailto:bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx%3E%20%0b%0bSubject:%20Re:%20[Chrysler300]%20Paxton%2050s%20performance%20advert%20including%20a%20C-300%0b%0bApropos%20of%20this%20topic,%20I%20have%20a%20car%20that%20in%201956%20received%20what%20today%20we'd%20call%20a%20crate%20motor,%20from%20a%20300B,%20engine%20#3NE562038.%20The%20installation%20was%20done%20by%20renown%20builder%20Bill%20Frick%20on%20Long%20Island,%20NY.%20It%20appears%20to%20be%20a%20stock%20motor%20to%20which%20Frick%20added%20a%20McCullogh%20VS57A%20blower.%20I%20haven’t%20had%20it%20dyno’d%20or%20clocked%20but%20the%20power%20is%20quiet%20ample.%20

The icing of the cake was a C-300 with twin Paxtons at the bottom of the list. If I remember correctly, this was advertised doing 0-60 in less than 7 seconds. Do anyone have a copy/scan of this advert that I can get a digital copy of? Trying to source it on the internet gives nothing, but I believe it has been published in the 300 fraternity before.Narve NordangerDrove my C-300 today and remembered a nice story(but am really struggling to get Yahoogroups to accept my e-mails)[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
