Hi Terry.
Are you absolutely sure this orange paint  that we are refering to, is not just present inside the metal portion of the ducts, just behind the screens like you say? But maybe not present inside the plastic/fiberglass portion of the ducts?? Or maybe someone oversprayed orange paint all the way back inside your plastic ducts before you owned your D? On the car I am restoring, there was no paint at all inside the plastic/fiberglass ducts, only inside the metal cast portion, just behind the screens...
Something to think about?

  The inside of these ducts were painted the same red/orange color as the screens in front of them.  This is nearly identical to Chevy engine paint, readily available at any auto parts store.  The outside of the ducts were unpainted.  Terry McTaggart
