RE: [Chrysler300] re. trans fluid

Almost all of  my t-flites, both aluminum and 
cast iron leak when they sit for extended 
periods.  Once I start driving them on a regular 
basis, the leaks disappear.  Some look like they 
leak from the front seal, others from the 
shifting shaft.  I think the seals take a set, 
especially if its cold weather, and leak 
slightly.  I've reached the point where I keep a 
drip pan under all my old cars.

I've never heard any of the transmission experts 
(of which I am not) speak well of the additives 
that swell the seals.  Maybe for a tranny that is 
on its last legs, but not for long term use.  I 
have heard that the swelled seals then wear into 
that new dimension, and if the additive gets 
depleted they really start leaking.
