[Chrysler300] 300D Ignition Timing

This is Terry McTaggart in (finally) sunny Dayton.    My 300D feels as if 
the timing is retarded, so I am attempting to advance it  somewhat.  However, 
the clip holding the distributor cap to the distributor  body binds against 
the rear of the intake manifold, obstructing any turning of  the 
distributor.  Has anyone else come across this  problem?
