I was having a look at a reconditioned 300C engine on ebay (#270454772361) as mine is down to the bare block at the moment, for comparison of the internals. The engine is claimed to be a genuine 300C motor with block cast 10 April and engine number 3NE571893. However, my genuine engine was cast 12 March (car VIN 4 April) and has number 3NE572042. I don't see how a lower engine number could be on a later block. Note that my engine number is evenly stamped whereas the one on ebay is less even and the surface looks machined. If someone is thinking of paying top dollar for this as a genuine 300C engine (with an aftermarket manifold), I suggest they ask more questions of the seller and do more research first.
