Thanks to all who responded.
After checking out the dash on Jeff Carter's web site it would appear
that the pod was added. The hole on my dash is shaped like a keyhole
where as the one on Jeff's New Yorker is practically a square. Now the
question is do I try to have the hole repaired or do I keep the pod
since it was installed so early in the car's life?
One other interesting find when taking the dash apart was an emergency
flasher system. I'm guessing both the flasher and the Pod (with choke
cable) were added in the early '60s.

Dave and all,
I owned a 63 Salon w/reverb and the reverb switch was in that general
location also, mounted directly onto the lower part of the dash and more
or
less pointing downward but with no pod.
