There is one area where a special tool must be made when rebuilding an aluminum TF with a rear pump. It's an alignment tool for the rear pump cover. If the cover (which is also the governor support) is off center the governor support will wear grooves in it. The factory manual shows this tool, but I made one out of scrap stock when I worked in a machine shop. Other than that, follow the manual. You didn't mention if the price you were quoted was for a bench job, or a complete R&R and rebuild. It's steep for a bench job, but reasonable for a complete job.

Hi jerry;
It's really a pretty simple job. Several How to books out there to
help. Paul's right with 3 to do, learn.
You must pay attention, but if you have a big bench, slowly un-stack
the parts, it just goes back in the reverse. Replace all wearables
with new as you re-stack it.
Watch your clearances, and have fun.

I believe that I have read it here, if you have the space and the

doing it your self??
The cost might then fall in the $200-$300 range.
