Ron,
I'm not a painter by trade, but here's how I touched up some major paint dings on my black H. I mixed up a little bit of paint and hardener, then I dabbed it into the blemish with a model brush. Wait a few minutes, then apply another coat and then a third, and maybe a fourth. Just enough to build up the surface to match the original plane. After it sets up for a few hours, I wet sand, color sand, polish, and glaze. Even I can't find the repaired spots when I want to point them out to someone. I had some scratches and chips from installing my hood and bumpers, and had a major stone chip near a headlight. Since the paint is single stage, there was no need to apply a clear coat. I've never attempted to repair a base-clear paint (don't know how) but this is easy enough for me.

Subject: [Chrysler300] Paint Question
My body shop convinced me to have my 58 Plymouth painted in base/clear.
Their argument was that chips were easier to repair. As it turns out, I
scratched an area about one half inch square in the course of mounting the
front bumper. I also removed a similar amount near the door latch while
aligning the door. The car is a non-metallic color, BTW.
For all you painters out there: If this had been painted in single stage,
how difficult would it be to repair the damage to the point where the
scratch was not visible ?
