Are you replacing both the inner and outer axle seals? I agree, do
not try to seat the inner seals, just put them in far enough to clear
the bearing and be on a good portion of the axle sealing surface. I
haven't worked on that year for a looooong time, but the principals
should be the same as the later 60's.
