RE: [Chrysler300] A/C Compressor Rebuild - Anyone done one?

I have re-built the early twin V compressors. 57 to 61? Basic mechanics. You
cannot get head gaskets. A real pain to cut due to intricate pattern. Later
compressors you may find them. If the compressor is locked up I would look
for a salvage yard replacement. Vintage Auto Air or other shop may have a
core for you.

I had one of the cars out for a 100 plus mile drive last night and on the
way home started smelling something burning. Turns out it's the A/C
compressor.....it was smoking pretty good by the time I got home. I don't
want to assume its just a bearing although I suspect that all it is. I'd
like to rebuild the whole unit, has anyone done their own or is it better to
just leave it with a professional.

Any advice? What would one of these typically cost to have rebuilt?Ryan
