ALSO, you might have to check the condition of the connecting
wire that ties the 2 points together, the original was cloth
covered I seem to recall. that can hide a broken wire easily.,
also check that its not frayed or scuffed enough to cause
problems too.
RE: 12V coils, if fed 6v and tried to be used in a 6V system, the
primary side being enjineered for 12V will not reach full
'charge' potential, to the secondary, the secondary side will
still try and provide a higher V BUT no where near it's designed
potential for starting attempts.
I seem to recall The 12V systems with ballest resisters are
supposed to be 12V for starting, and running V is supplied thru
the ballest resister dropping the V to 6V - 8V or at least
serving as a current limiter for running conditions.
