Hi Paul, A totally correct replacement copper float can be purchased from (ugh) Ford under their part # COAZ-9202-B . Cost about $6.00 ; there should be a ground strap between the fuel line and tank sender nipple, jumping over the rubber connecting hose. There is no need to drop the tank - the fuel tank sender can be reomoved with tank still in the car. Just make sure there is less than about 1/3 tank of fuel in the tank when removing the sender !
