Thanks is peculiar.... I just got mine back a month or so ago and he told me
to use Type F Auto Tranny fluid.

I too grew up hearing that you could use ATF in the P/S system. Then one
night, a long time ago, while hanging out with the owner of Steer and Gear
(power steering experts) he told me to only use power steering fluid. This
is what he/they use on all of their rebuilt units. We didn't get into why
(or I don't remember why). Anyways, he has rebuilt the pumps and gears in
all of my cars without any trouble and so I only use P/S fluid now.

Hi All,

Many years ago, someone told me to just use transmission fluid in the power
steering pump. He said it's all the same.  Can ATF+3 be used in the power
steering pump? If not, does anyone know the difference?  Is there a
preferred power steering fluid?
