Re: [Chrysler300] re flash chroming hubcaps

Hi Fellows,

Trivalent chrome plating is replacing the decades-old hexavalent process.
Even thought the costs for trivalent are higher, the pressure is on to
reduce human exposure to hex related chemicals.
Ask your plater for the facts. The color of the plating is different
between the two processes. The hexavalent chrome provides the blue we like
to see in chrome. Confirm the hue most appropriate for these disks before
you plate.
I would also look for an alternative to the polishing (abrasion) method for
removing the OE flash plating. Stainless cuts faster that chrome resulting
in unavoidable wave undulations. Heat could also be an issue.
Electrical/chemical bathing may be a better way to go, with an appropriate
polish follow up to repair and prepare the disks for the flash plating.
