We live in California and our 2 daily drivers are our 1962 Chryslers (300
coupe & NY wagon).
We only have lap belts to hold down our kids car seats...and us up front is
we so desire.
No other law applies...at least that I know of.
Your friends should be fine as long as they have a high limit gas card!

I have a friend that desires to drive their 1962 classic car from South
Carolina to California.  It does have lap-type seat belts but does not have
shoulder belts or the like.  Are there any states in between (especially
California) that require shoulder-type belts, even though they were not
offered in the year of manufacture of the vehicle?

This question may apply to those that are driving to Lake Tahoe in August
and plan to extend their visit into California or states to the east.
