Yes, this will work, but the low frequency sound from the speaker will be
enhanced if a solid piece is used to mount them.  The board serves to
separate the sound coming from the back of the speaker from the sound coming
from the front, which tend to cancel each other.  Think about how "tinny" a
raw speaker sounds when connected on a bench for test purposes, without the
benefit of an enclosure.

I like the idea of the fabric to keep the sun off of the speaker though, as
long as it doesn't buzz.
