Just to round things out, the Pace Setter version of the 300 Sport Series had the VIN prefix 803

For your purposes, the first two numbers in the VIN are the most important.
for example,

81 = Newport
82 = 300 Sport series
83 = New Yorker
84 = 300 letter series

Third digit 3 = 1963

Fourth digit 3 = Detroit manufacturing plant

Remaining digits = sequential serial numbers for all models; starting with
100001.

Thus, the VIN would indicate that it is a 1963 300J.

Hello Chrysler friends:

I saw a 63' 300 J for sale on a web site. The seller lists the car
with the VIN number as 8433 159480. I am just curious because I am not
sure
if in fact this is a 300 J, or if it is a 300 sports series. (I would like
to try to purchase it, if it is a letter car)

Could anyone out there give me some direction or information, please?
Also, is there a way of knowing what the numbers mean, for instance, which
production number was this particular one (from the total 400 built that
year), or any other features?
