Ken Well you're note to the listserver really got me worked up this evening. You see I just settled a lawsuit against a local chrysler dealer and damilerchrysler. My car has just finished off its second set of tires in 30 thousand miles. The first set had vibrations which couldnt be cured and the entire set was replaced under warranty at around 16k miles. The second set had no vibrations but the tech misaligned the car and that set was all feathered and chopped up three thousand miles later. Despite the fact that the dealer said nothing was wrong with the alignment specs three other tire dealers gave me printouts showing the toe and camber was out of spec. I called the customer inassistance center who got involved and asked that I go to another dealership because they wont offer assistance based on the evidence of non mopar techs so I went to another dealership where they charged me to look at the car.. Remember now that the car is STILL under factory warranty! At any rate that dealer determined that the alignment was out of spec just like all the other shops told me. Called back the rep at the customer assistance center with the results and he asked me what I would like them to do... I said replace the tires and refund the money I spent at the second chrysler dealer to correct the aligment which the first dealer screwed up. He told me he'd forward the request to the zone manager and I'd have a call from the zone office within two weeks. 3 weeks go by, no call, I called back and found out that they denied ANY assistance at all the day after the request was put through. They wouldnt provide the name of the local zone manager and wouldnt escalate my call beyond the service rep who then only said that he had full authority and couldnt/wouldnt help me any further... this after HE sent me to HIS dealer where I paid to have the car looked at at my expense because I'm sure they were betting the second dealer would simply confirm that there was nothing wrong with the car. He recommended the binding arbitration as mentioned in the warranty manual for the car. Anyway, longer story short... I filed a civil suit and three days before the pre-trial conference they came up with a bunch of cash and a set of tires. I requested and got Michelin MXV4 plus's. Funny ... if you've looked at any 2000 and newer M's you'll notice they dont come equipped with the GoodYears ... HMMmmm wonder why ? because Chrysler engineers spec'd out the tires incorrectly to GoodYear. You've got what's technically referred to as a "tire disturbance". Call GoodYear customer service, tell em what car youve got and that youve been told youve got a tire disturbance and theres a program in place to get chrysler to replace the tires under warranty. No DaimlerChrysler dealer will admit this to you! The folks at Goodyear will give you a special phone number and code and tell you to go to a chrysler dealer where you'll go in and they'll look at you like you're from Mars or worse yet Stuggart. Then they'll call the number, give the code and have four tires on the way for you. Unfortunately they'll still be Goodyears but will be "OE" spec tires. This means that even though they'll look like the goodyear Eagle LS's on the car and be the same size they are actually different than the same tires you could buy at a local GoodYear store. This should cure your vibration. Dont let them give you any BS about your car being past 12k miles or the tires too worn out to get replaced. The district manager and the reps in corporate were so arrogant and full of S*@# that I came -->THIS<-- close to buying an Acura to replace the M. Would have been unfortunate as I do like the car , always have, but those creepy nazi bastards who now reside in Auburn Hills pushed me to the edge. Although I signed a release and it did state I agree not to "talk" about the nature of the settlement or any issues there in I dont actually see anything in there about my agreeing not to "write" about anything. Therefore... if you cant resolve it to your satisfaction let me know and I'll send you the names and direct phone numbers for the nimrods in corporate who I dealt with. You can give 'em my name and send my regards. Good luck Mike Laiserin
