All,
I'm directing your attention to the December, 200 issue of MOPAR Action 
magazine. Therein is a very interesting article about a 61 Chrysler New 
Yorker that wound up on the other side of the law hauling moonshine whiskey 
throughout the North Carolina-Virginia area. It is a four door sedan but 
packs a ram induction 413 that has been reworked to make in excess of 500hp, 
according to the article. The suspension was also reworked to allow 1000lb 
loads of moonshine to be transported over the winding, twisting two lane 
roads in that area at speeds of well over 100mph and outrun the "revenoors." 
One of the people involved with setting the car up was none other than 
Junior Johnson (no relation).

The car has been restored by the owner who used it for hauling shine in the 
early 60's. It is not clear in the article if the ram induction engine was 
original from Chrysler or the engine was built to spec after delivery by the 
moonshiners. A close view of the engine compartment showas the rams to be of 
the short ram variety that came on the 400hp dealer installed option. 
Perhaps the 300 stuff was available in "police packages" or other non-300 
applications during the late 50's-early 60's era and some of these got into 
the hands of the general public. This article is "must" reading for all ram 
induction enthusiasts. Larry Johnson
