Brake shoe arcing

Jim and list,

You commented:

<the reason they don't arc break shoes anymore is OSHA did not like the dust in the
air.And break shops could not afford to make them dust proofed>

I have not found this to be the case, even in environmentally conscious California. I have a company that routinely arcs shoes to fit drums, Friction Materials in Oakland CA., and they have done several cars for me.

The BIG issue is that they cannot do it with brake (friction) materials that contain asbestos. There is no restriction on arcing modern, non-asbestos, brake materials. I think the biggest reason you don't commonly see arcing is that the arcing machines are not as prevalent as they used to be with more and more cars having 4 wheel disc brakes.
