600 HP from the factory? Doubt it. Let me rephrase that - NO. Consider the "race hemi" please: - more compression, better carburetion (780cfm Holleys & cross-ram induction), more camshaft, and it was reported to have about 550. True, the 425 rating (which was taken at 5000 rpm BTW) was probably a bit low, but I think even 475 would be pushing it. Note that NHRA "factored" the street hemi to 500 HP, and even in "super stock trim", it took a while before they could outrun the same-class 425 HP Max Wedge cars. Don't get me wrong, these were great engines with great potential, but the way they came from the factory in "street hemi" form, they were just "de-tuned" racing engines, which are generally just a little bit faster (and sometimes slower) than "souped-up" dump truck/motor home engines (such as the 440 6 pak) - which came *very* close in "from the factory" performance - with 390 HP, (which was OVER-rated!).
