I have received a number of emails on this subject as I thought I would. I had read a number of articles on Chrysler's "new" hemi arguing that it was not a true hemi in the character of the original. Today I did a Google search with the argument of "Chryslers new hemi is not a true hemi" and got a wealth of interesting technical opinions. This is only one of them but there are many others quite worth reading. Do not get me wrong, I did not mean to imply that this was not a good motor(in fact it is probably excellent). It just is not near the revolution as the engine that we are so fond and proud of. I get somewhat annoyed at Chrysler as twice now(remember the 4 door, 6 cylinder 300 M running around the racetrack with a C 300) created a new product and somehow relate it to the great tradition and performance(for its era) of our cars. GM did this with Corvette in the 70's(or have we forgotten the 180 hp 1977 Vettes) and Ford did with the T Bird(these guys went beyond the pale with some of their grotesque products) so for Chrysler to do it too and call this engine a hemi(calling it so does not make it so) is what I was pointing out. Evidently many others feel the same. http://www.automobilemag.com/news/0407_hemi/ Roger Schaaf 300 B Calif ----- Original Message ----- From: Moparpjf@xxxxxxx To: obiwan10@xxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 3:57 AM Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] Fw: 300's HEMI Powered vehicles In a message dated 9/28/2004 12:28:20 AM Eastern Standard Time, obiwan10@xxxxxxxxxxx writes: Again I do not believe that the "new" hemi meets the definition of a hemi as defined by Chrysler in their early engines(and of course those of the 60's). Roger: I must have missed the beginning of this discussion - why don't you think these new engines qualify as "hemis?" I admit, they don't have 2 four barrels and they may be computer controlled, but the 6.1 has 426 cubes and develops 425 horsepower - sounds pretty close to the original, even if it is run by computers and sensors.
