George- If you are going to replace the pump, it is a great time to check the fuel pump push rod to be sure it has not worn - I fought a 383 in a Coronet that about drove me crazy as it finally wouldn't hardly run except at idle- the cam end of the rod had worn to the point of the rod was too short to get much of a push on the pump lever. After you remove the pump, pull the small allen head plug out just below the pump opening, and drop the rod out. Compare the length of both ends, or better yet go to a Chrysler dealer and pick one up. You may have to order it, last I checked they were still available. Coat it in a quality wheel bearing grease to hold it up to the cam, re-install the plug and put your new pump in. Small part, not expensive and often overlooked. It might save a few un-happy moments down the road. Prior to my buying the Coronet I spoke of, previous owner put two new pumps on, a new fuel tank filter and flushed the whole fuel tank, lines etc. without fixing his "running out of fuel at full throttle" problem. Good luck. Anything to look out for or avoid? Or is it as easy as it looks?
