Now I'm not so sure. I have a number of what are obviously 1960 Chrysler tail light assemblies, but they have varying numbers on them, so I consulted my friendly parts book to see which were which. The picture in part 23 tells me that the housings are "serviced" in 8-55-7, so I go to 8-55-7 and find none of the numbers appearing on the housings. The numbers on the housings I have are as follows: #1960908, 1960909 and 1960798. Somewhere I think I have a 1960799 as well. I cannot find any of these numbers on the parts book - can someone help me out here? I know the even numbers are right side, but why aren't the other numbers there? All my numbers start with 1961. Could I have a very late revision which is showing the superceded numbers? In any event, if someone can identify these for me, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks, Pete Fitch ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 2 Date: Sat, 26 Jul 2003 17:35:57 -0400 From: John Hertog <crossram@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Part Number Confusion Pete, You are looking at casting numbers, not part numbers. This happens all the time. Sometimes you can go up or down by one the last number -- that may well be the part number. Don't go by odd or even either -- I've seen too many errors on that too. Adding the attachment studs makes it a different part number-----an assembly. I have to admit I am a bit puzzled by the name they applied to them though----Lamp, Quarter panel tail, stop, and turn signal. I would think "housing" would have been more appropriate. Since the 1960 908, 909 are kind of near the end of that "batch" of part numbers, it is possible there were no more 1960 *** numbers left when the time came to assign a number to the housing assembly. Only seeing the engineering drawings could answer your question absolutely, however. Does this help? Hope so. 300ly, Gil C. The numbers cast in generally are just a casting number (such as on cylinder heads, intake and exhaust manifolds), I have never seen any explanation as to why they are not the same numbers. "DO NOT", I repeat, "DO NOT" use "3M Plastic Emblem & Trim Adhesive" to attach your reproduction grille medallion. I did use it and all I could do was watch as it slowly attacked the paint and now my $50.00 emblem looks absolutely terrible. My car looked naked without the emblem and now it does not look much better with that terrible looking emblem. Everything was going great until I bonded the emblem. I took out my grille and detailed the radiator support. Everything was painted RED. Wires, wiring harness and the parking and headlight connectors. I made a backing plate that bolts onto the grille and the emblem bonds to the plate. At least the emblem will be easy to remove. Call me STUPID because in November there was discussion about attaching these emblems. One member said "I have never used this stuff, but I have heard that most new vehicles use this type of adhesive for attaching emblems and some trim parts. It is called "3M PLASTIC & EMBLEM ADHESIVE", Part Number is #08061. I am going to make a backing plate that bolts into the grille center and probably use the 3M plastic emblem adhesive." Others said that they have used RTV silicone. The Tech Department has a great article on the emblem installation using RTV silicone. I chose to use the 3M adhesive and learned the hard and expensive way. PLEASE learn by my mistake. Perhaps an installation instruction sheet could be sent with each medallion ordered. On this sheet could be a list of the acceptable adhesives. There should also be a warning. "DO NOT use "3M Plastic Emblem & Trim Adhesive". It will positively attack the paint and ruin your new emblem."
