Doug, Some help to your questions may be the following: The 340hp had a stroke of 3.375 (9.5-1 comp) and the 360 hp had a stroke of 3.750 (10-1 comp). Also, the 340hp had 1.60 in head dia valves and the 360hp had 1.75 in dia. You could installed the longer connecting rods, but there would be more backpressure in you exhaust. You would probably need to replace the heads, which will fit, from a 360hp engine. All 413s shared the same stroke(along with the 440s, 426s and the late hemis) of 3.75in..A 3.38 in. stroke was shared by the 361, 383 and400 inch engines. Compression ratios are determined by a combination of piston crown height& combustion chamber volume in the head. They didn't change rod lengths to vary compression, it was a lot more cost effective to alter the shape of the piston crown to do it. Exhaust backpressure is more a function of airflow thru the engine versus flow capacity of the exhaust system than anything else. I'm talking about the internal engine and head differences, not things like the obvious intake and exhaust differences. I know that the 390 horsepower engines have solid lifters, lower compression ratios, etc., but I would like to know more precisely what the differences are. Can anyone help? Thanks. I have a '60 Chrysler radio delete plate, # 2080008. My '60/''61 parts books both list this number. My '62 book says # 2162145. My plate is all chrome, including the Chrysler script. Another I have seen, described as for '60-'62 Chryslers had the Chrysler script in gold. It looked exactly similar, save the gold script. Was this the '62 delete plate ? Did they all have the Chrysler script in gold, and mine has simply been 'polished off' ? How was the script, which was obviously part of the casting, be gold, and the rest chromed? Thanks folks........ Dave. VC-2 IS a 300, but it is the non-letter variety, and the base engine is the 383 with the 3.375 stroke. The page is somewhat confusing as it does not list 300-K as a separate model (It is VC-4), but as an option on the base model. The 413, 426, & 440 had only one stroke, 3.750 period. 300ly, Don ----- Original Message ----- From: <crash5194@xxxxxxx> To: <helmj@xxxxxxxxxx>; <Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, July 27, 2002 7:53 PM Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] 300K engines > > Jim, > > I will appempt to scan pages from my service manual on all the specs > and get them back to all (I'm not very good at that and I need my 14 yr old > Daughter's Help) > > Also, I was at the local Penastar's Cruise Night aand learned another > meaning for MOPAR, (This is a goo one) Massively Over Powered Asphault > Ripper. > > Last, but not least, while at the Cruise, my 300-K was photographed > for a "Moparland", a Northeast PA Mopar web site.
