re - the heat riser discussion of a few days ago;
icing is a very real problem, esp. on the 63-4's as they dont
have heat risers on the long rams, they have an exh. gas diversion
scheme that doesnt always work well enough to combat icing in the tubes.
ive twice had hydrostatic locks due to melting ice from the intake
tubes, ive gone so far as to install an ign cut out that allows me to
roll the engine over, before starting, to ensure its clear of water,
before starting on cold, damp days.

Subject: Mirror

Is there anyone who knows the different mirrors that was availible on the
300E and if there was anyone delivered with only one mirror mounted on the
driversside door. I would be happy to see how they look like if there is
someone who has any pictures.

Thanks
Rickard

Subject: Re: IML: Torqueflite gasket (was A Question for Philippe)

Hi Bill '59 Crown (and list)
I've noticed a curious thing on at least 3 or 4 Torqueflite
gasket overhaul kits (this remark applies on overhauled trans.):
The gasket between trans. housing and trans. extension has not
the hole for the breather and the inside of trans has no
connection with exterior !! First i thought that it was only on
the last kits i bought from fatsco but i've verified this
omission on other kits i bought 5 years ago at another
supplier...
As the trans couldn't "breath" you'll find the problem i have
since i rebuilt it: when you start the car after a while (3 or 4
days) the oil spits from oil filler tube (preferably on hot
exhaust ..), especially if you run at hot iddle. This occurs
rather if you have some "converter drainback": too much oil in
pan , units turns at high speed and shakes oil so inside air is
compressed, pressure builds and blows out oil by the only way,
the filler tube ..
The remedy is simple: cut a hole in the gasket !! But you need to
remove driveshaft / hand brake drum and assoc. parts / trans.
mount (so you must support rear of trans.) / extension housing. 2
or 3 hours of labor for a hole !! But i'll do it (because also i
've to remove driveshaft for exchange of propeller shaft center
bearing, you know why..)

Bill, drill the gasket seems very difficult to do, you must
remove the breather cover (removing is a thing but installing
again is another..) and if you drill you'll send foreign material
in oil. Perhaps you could punch or pierce the gasket but the hole
would be too small and perhaps will close itself with pressure.

In the past I have owned both a convertible and a hardtop 300E and my old
photos show only the driver side mirror but it isn't on the door, it
mounts on the top of the fender.
You might try to get Chrysler 300 Club Newsletter volume 8 number 4 [May
1978 issue] which showsa 300E hardtop on the front cocer and a convertible
on the back cover. They look like they are from a factory brochure and
both show only the drivers side mirror.
Hope this helps.

Was the mirror installation done at the dealer per either the dealers
choice or the customers choice as to whether on the door of fender??
