Re: [FWDLK] 1955 Imperial Brakes

Might want to look at your service manual.  If the power brakes are original they’re a one year only system.  I’ve heard them called Vac-Draulic.  The master and booster are all one unit.  Don’t have my ’55 DeSoto manual handy to look for you.  Thinking repeated pressure on the booster without vacuum might (or might not) damage the diaphragm.  Good luck.

Subject: [FWDLK] 1955 Imperial Brakes

I am almost ready to bleed the brakes on our 1955 Imperial.  Should I bleed the brakes with the engine running or can I bleed them with the engine off.  I am asking this due to the power brakes on the car.  All my other old cars I have had were manual brakes with 6 cylinder engines.  This is the first with power brakes and V 8 engine.

Thank you in advance.
