Re: [FWDLK] 1958 Plymouth tip of the day

For comparison: ‘57 -‘ 59 part numbers in my electronic parts books.

Summary:

1876 331 has no description of the finish or any indication of “prismatic,” but is called “off set type” in one place (’57 Dodge).  1876 332 is described as “prismatic” AND chromed. in 1959, a new mystery prismatic is introduced as 1902 138 so it might be an updated to the  -332 mirror. There are also separate part number for complete mirror kits, including mirror-matic.

Details:

Inside rear view mirrors are listed in two sections:  Group 1 (Accessories) and Group 23 (Body).

1)  1955-58 parts book entries: Part numbers  1772 896 (plain? for 1957), 1772 436 (prismatic for 1957), 1876 331 (plain? for 1958, and “off set” for 1957 Dodgeonly), 1876 332 (prismatic for 1958)

Naturally, from left to right: Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto, Chrysler/Imperial

Group 1: Shows aluminum for ’57 and chromed “prismatic" for ‘58

Group 23: Shows 1876 331 and 1876 332 (with “prismatic” being the differentiator)

2) 1959 parts book shows the addition of mirror-matic, but the chomed part number is the shown alternately as 1876 331 and 332 but both are described as chrome+prismatic and used across the board. BUT yet another part numbers listed which is described only as  “prismatic” (1902 138) and is also used across the board.  Oddly, the index states that mirrors are covered in group 23-28 (#47), but there is no 23-28 section in the book!  It skips from  group 23-26 to 23-31 right not he same page.

Group 1: Shows 1876 332 (as chrome, prismatic like the 1958 book did) plus the mirror-matic package 1881 940

Group 23: Shows 1876 331 (and NOT 332) and a new, mystery 1902 338 (along with a package number and mirror-matic part numbers)

1876 331 and 1876 332 (day - night prismatic) are the only ones shown in the parts book for 58 Plymouth.

I've never seen this mirror on 58 Plymouth, Fury or not. There were two mirrors available for 58 Plymouth: the standard and the day/night. They were all painted, both the mirror itself and stalk. This may have been used on senior models, Chrysler or Imperial.
