I've never seen any evidence that Plymouth stamped or painted
engine or VIN numbers on the frame in '58. That includes my 58 Plymouth, which
had a frame off restoration. I removed the body from the frame and there were no
numbers.

The body was off the frame. I would think that the number can be
found by simply removing the left rear tire to expose the frame.

Mischa - That number is a casting number, which may also be
the same as the part number. The actual engine number is located on the block
behind the power steering pump. It should be LP8xxxxxxx.
I'm not aware of Plymouth stamping or painting engine numbers
on the frame. Even if they did, you would have to remove the body from the frame
in order to see it.

Thanks for all the answers so far!
I forgot to mention the engine number, it is, as said, on the right; 5 -
1737929. It is a 318 V8. So if I read it right this number should match the
number on the chassis (if it is still somewhere...)?
The car is definately a Belvedere, by the looks of it. I bought the car in
this state, it was not restored by me. I think it is restored just the way it
originaly was, and not to make it look like Christine. If that was the case, too
many mistakes were made. To begin with the color red is the Toreador red, not
the Royal red which Christine had. Also the interior, which has been completely
renewed, is black and grey in the same pattern the Belvedere used to have. If it
was restored to look like Christine they would have chosen red I guess.
Greetings,
Mischa
