Re: [FWDLK] 58 plymouth number questions

All,

 My book also mentioned that the code was on some California and Canadian built cars. I spaced over that.

The paint code was published on the data plate. But only cars produced in Newark, DE and Los Angeles (IIRC) had data plates. For a Newark car, it was by the master cylinder. For LA cars, it was on the passenger side upper fire wall (IIRC).

As somebody mentioned, LP2-L indicates the car was built in Los Angeles and, yes, that is the series number for a Plaza with a V8. The L signifies a low priced car.
Trim codes weren't available, but paint colors were; AAA= Jet Black, BBB= Bluebonnet Blue, and so on, were published by paint suppliers.. According to the book I have (The Catalog of American Car ID numbers, 1950-1959), the code wasn't stamped anywhere on the car and if the code was needed, the dealer could find out the code based on the car's serial number. For two tone colored cars, the first two letters indicated the upper color, the second letter indicates the lower color and the third letter indicated the insert color.

Subject: [FWDLK] 58 plymouth number questions

Dear list,

Today I got my 58 Belvedere taxed. We came upon some questions;

The number at the drivers door says; LP2L 19229, but LP2L seems to indicate a Plaza...

There is also a number under the hood on the right, that says (if I read it correctly, it is hard to read due to the thick paint on it) ?? 325 LP2L 252 203 133

There should also be a number on the chassis, but we could not find it. Does anyone know exacly where it should be?

Is it possible to find out the original color by any of these numbers?

Is it possible to find out if the engine is still the original?

Thanks for any help!
