Interesting comment about the serging. I frankly can’t remember what
the mid-fifties MoPar carpets I grew up with had around their edges. I
recall the ‘62 and later had serged borders.
I do distinctly remember the ‘56 Dodge Coronet and ‘56-‘57 Plymouth Savoy
and Plaza rubber mats were not embossed with any pattern at all, just a sort of
fake loop carpet stamping. They were contoured to fit the transmission
hump. The ‘56 Plymouth Savoy and Custom and Sport Suburban had color
coordinated rubber mats.
When I got my ‘55 DeSoto Firedome in 2005 it had the original green rubber
mat in front, no design, with a MoPar part number, and the original matching
green carpet in the back.
The ‘53 Dodge Coronet rubber mat had quite an elaborate pattern with the
Dodge crest over the transmission hump. The ‘50 Dodge had a complex
pattern of ribs going several directions. The ‘41 Dodge Custom had a
combination rubber and hogshair carpet in front and full hogshair carpet in
back.
