Re: [FWDLK] Manual vs. Power Windows

My 56 Fury had inner metal panels both front and rear that were already stamped for manual or power windows.  The only difference was the lower channel on the front windows.  They were different, and unless one had the correct original window channel for power windows, it had to be fabricated.  I did not install the power windows I had because I sold the Fury before I had a chance to make a new front window lower channel.   The new owner had one made and put in the power windows.  They bolt right in.

I'm thinking that it's just a plate that's tack welded to the inner door to accomodate the crank windows, and to cover the bolt holes needed for the p/w assembly. Cars built with power windows had door shells without this plate.

Economically, it wouldn't have been cost efficient to create a unique door shell for p/w cars.

Hi All -

For 55-6 Chryslers and Desoto 2dr HT and convertible, the parts book indicates that a different door shell was used whether you had power windows or not. Does anyone know the difference between the door shells ?

Thanks,

Ron
