Type A when available, personally prefer type F, and generic ATF is fine as well. If your powerflite or iron TF is rebuilt, the modern clutches are fine with any fluid exc merc/dexIIII or newer spec fluid

Making good progress on the ‘55 Savoy. Since I signed on
to the list a couple of months back I’ve rebuilt the hydraulics, sandblasted
and painted wheels, replaced tires, restored the trunk area, replaced shocks, and
quite a laundry list of other tasks.
I’m ready to service the
transmission and the specified Type A ATF, of course, is not available on local
shelves although it is available online (rather cheaply it seems). Are most of
you running something other than Type A? I would appreciate any advice.
