Thanks for the tip. I think you are right
about the ATF/acetone mixture although the only objects I have personally tried
it on—a famously stuck lawn mower engine and a small rusted screw jack—remain
frozen. I think perhaps in those cases, the acetone flashed out of the mixture
before it had a chance to penetrate.
I have had poor results with WD-40; fair
to good results with PB Blaster. The most effective tool in the arsenal remains
the torch, but I always worry about setting something on fire.

A 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone is the all-time best rust
penetrator for freeing stuck items.
Cheap and easy to mix up, just put it in a spray bottle and
you're off to the rodeo. Can be applied with a brush, or dunk whole
parts in a bowl of the stuff. Beats the pants off PB or WD.
