Nick,
I delivered all my 1956 Ply four-door side windows and had new glass cut
and put back in the original trays/frames locally (San Diego) so as others have
said you don’t need to pay a premium for an out of town “special order.”
The price was extremely reasonable and if you have difficulty finding a
local glass shop to do the job, let me know and I can investigate having our
local shop do it.
It is easy to R&R the side window glass and it is my opinion that you
do not need the “shop” to do the labor.

I
second what Brent said and would go even further, recommending that for a custom
cut like this, you take the whole car in and let them do the install. It
will initially be more expensive but if they didn't get it quite right they will
have to take care of it. Also, a local glass shop told me that they still
have to special order the glass itself as they can't cut tempered or laminated
glass in-house; I figure some shops can do that else who would cut down stock
glass for rods with chopped tops.

Most glass shops can do your flat
glass with no issues. You may want to pull the glass and frame and
deliver to them to avoid any
chance mishap with your old car / interior. They will reset the
glass into the frame with the appropriate sealer and hand it back, ready
to install.

I've
never replaced door glass on anything I've owned. The passenger door glass
in my 56 Plym cracked this weekend.
What's
options for a new one. Can glass shops cut this stuff if I get the old one
out in one piece. Do I need to do this local or mail
order…
Any
experiences would be appreciated.
Still
TBD exactly why the window cracked.
Thanks
Nick
