My first car was a 1937 Plymouth Sedan 4 door back
in 1963 when I turned 16, ($35.00 for the car). I had it painted and it
turned out real nice for a kid. I went to Western Auto and they sold
Port-a-Walls, so I bought a set and went to the local gas station and the owner
let me break down the tires and put the white walls on at no charge being I was
doing it myself. They turned out looking real good. They were good
quality and you had to look real close to see that it was not the real
thing. Then that fall, I bought a 1941 Plymouth Business Coupe ($100.00
for the car) that my Great Grandparents bought new and I put a set on that car
also. Oh the memories of the past!!!

Port-a-walls...
I had Port-a-Walls on two cars back in the early
'70s because it was the only way I could get wide whitewalls - they had
gone obsolete and the collector tire business was in its infancy with very few
sizes available.
And about 4 years ago I brought home a well-rusted '57
Imperial coupe to get the hemi. It had a set of PAW's on it also.
I have a great picture of one of them.

The slide is from Charles Phoenix's Americana website, and
its slide of the week.
In the old magazines, I've seen colored
'white walls' advertised, but had not ever seen a car with them
installed on it.
Think that your dad would have installed these
guys on his FWDLK'er?
