Re: [FWDLK] BRAKE FLUID QUESTION

you should never mix the 2, they will not homogenize, and will always dissociate just like vinegar and oil when shaken.  they are simply 2 dissimilar materials/fluids. they will not mix.

i have heard of the silicone fluid harming components like actual rubber cups in wheel cyliners, or the brake light pressure switches... personally i haven't had a problem with silicone, and to top it off it in non-hydroscopic, unlike traditional DOT3 or the newer synthetic version.

i've had it in a chevelle since '98, my 58 plymouths [several] from 2000, '01, '04  a 51 buick since 2005, my lincoln maybe 3 yrs now.. like it,  i have also heard of less heat resistance, but the highest performance new cars use it, and also havent had heat sinking problems with it.

the new synthetic is even more hydroscopic than traditional 3, but it doesnt damage paint.... but it should only be used in cars that will be used regularly, and with a closed, diampragm topped master, i recently did my 59 galaxie 'vert with synthetic, now 2nd guessing it as it has a vented cap- to the atmosphere... i.e. humidity that this fluid will absorb....

Subject: [FWDLK] BRAKE FLUID QUESTION

HELLO MEMBERS!!!

Has anyone ever run your car with a mix of DOT 3 and DOT 5 fluid???
I.E.--SILICONE BASE AND REGULAR OLD STYLE FLUID
------------------------------------------------------
All of the manufacturers say not to mix.
I have put samples in a cup,,,then shaken them up

The DOT 3 is heavier and settles to the bottom,,while the dot 5 'floats'
on the dot 3.
My point is,,,although you probably wont get the advantage of
either,,,it sure seems like it would NOT effect your braking or the
integredy of your system. They just do not mix and stay separated, but
they do not 'attack' each other.

ANY EXPERIENCES OUT THERE
