Re: [FWDLK] new list member Ron Hilbert

Hi Ron -

Welcome to the List. You'll find a lot of knowledgeable folks here, so if you have any questions, need parts or want to know 'what's correct', just post them here.

There is a companion to the listserver. http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/ is the discussion forums section of the Forward Look website. Both the List and Forums are run by the same person, Dave Stragand. The Forums tend to be for chatter and lengthy discussions about all things Forward Look. The List tends to be for more immediate issues of short duration, such as 'Where can I find a rebuild kit for...". However, there are no hard-and-fast rules and many participate in both the List and the Forums.

Good luck with your car !

Howdy!

I'm Ron Hilbert and I drove a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere convertible the year I graduated from Tennyson High School in Hayward California (1962) until 1966 when I got married and sold the Plymouth.

My original car was black and white with a white top, 3 speed transmission with overdrive. I swapped out the motor after spinning a main bearing to a 1960 318, I think? It had a full race Iskenderian cam and solid lifters.

I did 103 mph in 13.90 seconds in the quarter mile at Fremont Drag strip. Had tons of fun going to Santa Cruz almost every weekend with surfboards hanging out the back seat with the top down. I used to cruse East 14th in San Leandro on a regular basis with my buddies of which 5 became California Highway Patrol officers, or Alameda County deputy sheriffs.

I recently went to my 45th High School Reunion and a guy that I used to double date with said "I had the best times of my life in the back seat of that 57 Plymouth of yours." Then went on to tell me names of the girls that he dated in my Plymouth of which not one I could remember?

Well the search has been on for almost 10 years and I just bought a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible on eBay June 1st, 2010. It is yellow and white with a PowerFlight automatic transmission.

It was owned by an elderly gentleman in Salem Indian which he had purchased in 1982 with 67,000 miles on the odometer. It now has 77,100 miles on it. It is in desperate need of maintenance and I am moving forward with work to get it to Hot August Nights in Reno next week.

Here is my web site where I have been posting the progress of the work and lots of photos. Before it arrived from Indian there was a lot of anxiety on what I really had?

My high school buddies have been more excited I think than I have. They can't wait to see it at HAN.

I plan on taking HD video at Hot August Nights that I will post on YouTube.

I am back and forth between Sutter California and Roseburg Oregon where we are building our retirement home.

We already have built a 1800 sq. ft. detached garage and shop to house our 57 Plymouth, my wife's 65 Mustang convertible, and a 71 Chevy pickup.

Thanks for your time??

Kind Regards,
