Neil: You can use a cutter to open an aluminum manifold from front to back, but you will destroy its unique and more desirable characteristics for the purist. It probably won't be worth much as a collector item any more also. I bought an aluminum manifold with the front and rear intake ports removed. They had been removed and fabricated into a square opening. It cost me over $400 to have them restored as they were originally. This was rather tricky since it required aluminum welding and machining. If one wants to have progressive linkage on dual quads with only the rear carb operating, I would strongly suggest using one of the cast iron manifolds that are already open from front to back.
