HiI have a charging problem on my 61 Newyorker, (I am getting it on the road after a 20 year hiatus). I noticed the gauge on the dash was stationary and would only go towards discharge when I turned the lights on. So, I disconnected the negative battery terminal when the car was running and the car died. I took the alternator off and had it tested it showed good. However, I purchased a new one, (kept the old one for spare) and a new voltage regulator. The same result. 12.54 volts at the battery and the alternator when the car is off. 12.39 when the car is running at the battery and alternator. This tells me there is good continuity between the battery and alternator. The only thing I can think of is a bad or missing ground strap between the engine and frame. I know my 56 has one but does the 61 Newyorker and if so where would it be located if it is missing, the drivers side or passenger side.
