I'm actually very familiar with the brakes. I
have 3 cars with them on. they are actually from 50 to 55 on crown
imperials and 50 T&C. Easy to work on once you understand them.
I believe there is an early and late version somehow also.
Would be interested in contacting him about
T&C's since I have quite a few myself.

this is good
subject.... i'm friendly with the owner of a chrysler/dodge/jeep dealer in
teterboro NJ.... he's also a collector... has a 59 s/f convt, and a small
fleet of chrysler t&c's and caddys. i [so far] bought a pair of 59
dodges off him... and from the body shop/stock room an NOS 59 dodge fender, K
57 dual fury V800 intake manifold, along with used 59 361 commandos, 60s 383s,
60s/70s hipo stuff.. and still have to make it back up there for an group of
torqueflites and 331s.....
for those on here with more than fwdlk... he
has ALOT OF t&c parts... and may be even selling one of the cars.... and i
mean REAL town & country here... woodie converts and wagons for the 40s...
i dont know alot about them as to what woodgrain may be on what year- but he
has this setup i saw and thought was neat- disc brakes from the 40s... the
pads expaned internally against the inside of this 2-piece drum/rotor deal....
was an option on t&c's and imperials from 42-48 apparently... i dont know-
he said his father was the only one at the dealership that knew how to fix the
finicky setup....
i'm slacking off- i need to call him and find out the
fate of his dealership- the jeep aspect may save him... hopefully.... i'll let
everyone know what i find out over the next day or so.... and if anyone knows
anyone with the t&c's this may be a goldmine....

Hi
Jack,
I feel
it’s kind of inappropriate, given this situation of closing so many
dealerships.
But any
old dealerships with existing original owner is always very interesting when
it comes to documenting.
If you
have your build sheet and know your car comes from that dealership, now is the
last chance to go there and get all the information you
can.
Furthermore, there might be a lot of old (forward look)
documentation somewhere hidden in the building. That is, when this old
dealership is still in their original building, of course.
This way,
I was able to aquire a set of original dealer license plate frames from the
long ago closed dealership where my car was originally sold new. I managed to
find their kin and the grandson of t he original owner still had quite some
goodies at home. I paid a good price for it, but it was well worth
it.

And unfortunately the oldest
dealership with the existing original owner will be closed in Bradford,
PA---Rink Brothers Plymouth DeSoto. After DeSoto went out, they picked
up Chrysler. I went there when I was a kid and enjoyed it very
much.

Now....if
only someone would create an interactive map like this for all the DeSoto
dealers that closed in 1960/61.
