I have a couple of cars with good old torqueflite and they get left sitting
a year or two between starts. Last time took 5 quarts to get up to level to
run either. checked on price to get seal fixed and it was pushing a hundred
times the cost of adding fluid so let the idea pass.

If the fluid was old, that is kind of soaked into the ground it was probably a leak from whatever was above the puddle. Probably the torque converter input seal or seal where the shift linkage comes out of the transmission. If the fluid was fresh, it probably was pumped out when you started the car, due probably to torque converter bleed down which puts a coupls of extra quarts of fluid in the pan until it starts recirculating. At least that has been my experience.Bill Huff ---- Garrett <TheBulkster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:What might cause a bunch of transmission fluid to drain out of thetransmission if my car is sitting for a while on level ground? The car is a57 Dodge with a Powerflite. I'm pretty sure the mystery fluid was transmission fluid and I have no idea if it was a slow leak or all dumpedout at once, but I have not seen or heard of (from previous owner) the car doing this before. The car sat in my driveway/parking lot in the condo for a few weeks and I didn't really notice any tranny type fluid underneath itat all. After moving the car to a garage, it probably sat for a month or two and when pulling out, I noticed the puddle underneath the car. Anything in particular I should look for? Or has anyone had a similar problem? Any ideas appreciated.
