No I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, just working too many
hours and not having car fun... but, as far as your question... I was told
they are there to hold some pressure on the door panel so as you don't see
the window crank shaft, and to help keep crank from settling and causing
window to go down...???...if that is true ... now you have an answer... if
not... maybe someone can enlighten us both!

ps: don't try to get a stone out of a dump truck tailgate during a brain
fart... a 1000# gate takes off finger tips in less than a split second...and
it takes 2 1/2 hours to sew all the squishy pieces back together...OUCH!

What is the purpose of those spiral springs behind the interior door panel
on the window crank shaft ? To me, they create pressure on the door panel,
causing that area to wear out sooner. It also makes it difficult to remove
the door handle without cracking the escutcheon.
