Ummm... DeSoto Fireflites had liquid cooled Powerflites and Torqueflites in
the late '50's. The Firedomes, however, were air cooled, though by '58 a
liquid cooled trans was an option.
On my '55 Firedome, the Powerflite has two plugs on the side to add liquid
cooling.
My '55 Fireflite parts car has liquid cooling but it's not through the
radiator, it's by means of a box fastened to the block at the end of the
lower radiator hose. Same on the '55 Imperial which I just had here for a
short while.

That said, I retrofitted a CHRY liquid-cooled transmission onto my car
(the cooler
fits into the radiator's bottom tank, which has input & output
line-connections, to the
transmission.
The liquid cooling does not necessarily improve the performance of a
transmission,
but does tend to extend its operational life.
Dave Homstad has suggested that the maximum cooling effect would be to use
the air-
cooled torque converter (with its attached cooling fins) inside the
liquid cooled
transmission.
