Frankly, if after some efforts to get the "Member" to pay, I'd send an
eMail to the list stating "Would Mr. so and so Please contact me and
pay what he owes on our deal". And ask anyone that knows him to have
him get in touch, since he hasn't paid. If all things are factual, he
has no complaint, and if he doesn't pay, let the list know that also.
That way, we know not to deal with him. there's no sense in referring
to him as "A member of this list", we need to know who the bum is.

Neil,
I had a similar experiance, however not as involved, though with a
fellow
list member. I offered to the list only, a usable rear bumper for a '58
Dodge. The price was a whopping $0, niche, nada, free. The member just
had to reimbursement me shipping, which from DE to CO ran about $70.
Now,
I find the majority of car-guys and our list members very honorable and
upstanding and thus I fronted the shipping cost and waited, and waited
and
waited for reimbursement. Well lesson learned (#11 on your list).
Being
short the $70 didn't ruin my Christmas (#6) that year though experiences
list this pushes me closer to #8.
