Well, got off the phone with Mr. Greg Sharpe, curetor of the NHRA's
Walley Parks Motorsports Museum, in Pomona, CA
and he (re-)confirmed that the NHRA would not have any drag racing
results, in its archives, dating to the 1950's.
He did point out that the NHRA is separate (duh) from NASCAR .He was good enough to say that the various Stock classes were determined via : ADVERTISED horsepower -to- weight ratios (D/Stock class would involve "heavy" cars). The Gas-classes involve "modified" cars, being classed by : weight -to- cubic inches ratios. He did say that he would get-back to me ON the specific specifications for/on those two classes---gee, that IS one of his job-descriptions, I guess! He then said he WAS aware of Lee Smith's 1960's drag racing activities, with his (SORRY, Lee; I can't recall your stationwagon's 'name': [something-] Wagon....and his 1965 Dodge A/FX Funny car [that's right]. Anyway, Greg DID confirm that the NHRA's weekly house-organ : "National Dragster" began in 1960 (so, it's N.G. to us), BUT: the "Drag News" monthly newsletter began in 1955 (BINGO!) , so, copies of IT would represent the best documentation of virtually any-and-ALL of the "recorded" MoPar drag racing efforts, in the late 50's ! Finally, he mentioned that Bill "Maverick " Golden [as opposed to Tim Dupont, FROM Golden---lolol]...was known to have campaigned a "1957 Dodge" [ I HAD known that he had run a 1958 Dodge; didn't know about any "1957 Dodge"]. Anybody else wanna do a Search, for Bill's whereabouts??????So, I guess that I'll fire-up the ol' Evil-pay Search "engine".....for Drag Gnus... My earlier inquiry, to NASCAR, (which was not ever replied-to) about the full Speed Week participation and class-rules & full-race results (not just the first 5 placings therefrom; thanx, S.I.!) might get a response, if I try again, now (I'll give that another try, soon). Sorry, that's all I could do, this morning!
