as for adam's account of mileage through maintenance... i had a 58 savoy
318 poly fact 4bbl 3spd, with a documented 267,000 miles before i locked #5
con bearing and pierced a water jacket with that same rod... and why?
maintenance for the first 47yrs... as it started to use about a qt of oil every
400 miles, it went on a used-oil diet from all the other cars... finally the
pickup clogged and oil pressure dropped... but it was just a daily driver until
2 yrs ago... had i kept a steady flow of fresh oil in it... i'd still be
crop-dusting the highways and have close to 270k on it... fun fun
