All,
The engine is a Chrysler design "Hemi" six manufactured here in Oz from
1970 to 1981.
They were werer a semi-hemi with canted valves actuated by hydraulic
lifters and came in 215, 245 & 265 cubic inch capacities.
Probably the most well known of these engines was the "6 pack" triple 45mm
Weber carbied version of the 265 fitted to R/T Valiant Chargers which were a
force to be reckoned with.
The Hemi 6 was also used in the light truck range replacing the good old
slant six.
The Wayfarer ute mentioned would originally have been fitted with a flat
head 6cyl and the later & last 60, 61.models called the AP3 had a
318 poly V8 optional.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL,
Alan Down Under.

Subject: [FWDLK] '59 Chrysler UTE
Dan, I saw this car in a Swap Meet in Denver a couple of years ago.
It looked like the same shape as today pictures; Kinda rough but
running! The engine appeared to be possibly, but not likely a Chrysler
make. It appeared to be an International Truck engine, but even then
there were enough dissimilarities to allow anything else. As I remember,
it was not a Hemi designed head, just a rounded valve cover, and spark plugs
from the side. The radiator core support appeared to be modified (not a
professional appearing job) so the engine's length could be
compensated. The owner did not seem to be forthcoming with a great deal
of information, but maybe he sensed that I wasn't about to buy it, only to
talk about it.
The website address is a little off, though. The correct address is
www.classicalgasstation.com ,
and you'll find it listed under other makes.
59 Chrysler (looks
like a 56 Plymouth from the side) UTE, 1 of 347 made in Australia, runs
great, original interior, mini 6 Hemi six cylinder (?), $12995, www.classicgasstation.com in
